Top Golf, Dubai

For our second date, we went to Top Golf in Addlestone. My partner had previously been to the Las Vegas location so when he realised there was one in Dubai. He insisted that we went to the location, I’m glad we did, here’s our experience…

If you have not done a Top Golf experience before, then it’s in effect a high-tech driving range. Where you score points on how far you can get the ball into the target. On this site, they had an array of games you could choose for all ages and levels. As I’ve only done this a handful of times, I didn’t have high hopes that I would be any good.

Topgolf Dubai is located on the world-renowned Emirates Golf Club, home to the Dubai Desert Classic on the European Tour. Driving through the estate you could see the difference between that and the Addlestone location. We arrived and walked up some steps to be greeted by employees welcoming us to Top Golf. Before coming we booked the slot online, it was quick and simple to do. We were able to get a late afternoon / early evening slot which worked out best for us. You do have the option of reserving a bay for the busier evening/weekend slots but personally, I wouldn’t. As you would have to pay the cost of per game per person on top of it and it can work out quite expensive.

We checked in and were told to go upstairs to the bay number. Once there we were then greeted by a host member who ran through what we should do, how to select the games, and how to use the ball machine. Once shown, we ordered some unlimited soft drinks and started to play.

In our first game, we selected the beginner’s game ‘Top Shot’ and like I said I didn’t have any hope of winning. My partner went first and got a high score. I chose my club and started to have a go. After a whilst, I started to get my swing for the game. By the end of the first game, I had beat him on score points. Not skills as I still have no idea how to swing a golf club! Personally, I could only swing the ball for five swings due to the heat being so intense.

Moving onto the second game, myself being on a high after winning the first game. It wasn’t too last as my partner got competitive and wanted to beat me, which he did by far. The host came up to us and asked if we wanted to extend our time only having 15mins left of our hour slot. With the heat, we chose not to, as we had dinner plans that evening. They said we could have a break indoors and book another slot for later.

By the time our time slot had ended, we were able to take the remainder drinks to the bar area. On the ground floor, there were amusement games to play on. I took advantage to get a picture to say ‘Best Golfer By Par’ as I don’t think I’ll be able to beat him again. We asked the staff to help us order a taxi, but as there are lots of people visiting by Uber we were able to get one to our next destination easily. They have golf carts to take you to the main entrance of the Emirates Golf Club.

Personally, I am glad we did this as we both love to have adventures like this and we got to see the difference between the UK and Dubai’s location. I’m glad we booked for later in the day as the heat on the top floor was unbearable at times. Unlimited refills of soft drinks were needed, I know you could have other options for alcoholic drinks, but it wasn’t for us. Would I have paid more money to reserve a bay at nighttime, maybe? I guess that’s for another trip.
