In 2023, I stayed at the Dukes The Palm, a Royal Hideaway Hotel in Dubai. We stayed just over a week, and I wanted to share our experience.

The hotel is located on the famous Palm Jumeirah and is directly opposite the Nakheel Mall. The hotel has an array of room sizes, and it has two different lobby areas as it’s split down the middle. The hotel has two restaurants, The Great British Restaurant, and Kypher Restaurant. It also has the ULA bar which is located on the beach. The hotel has an infinity pool with a lazy river, as well as a gym and an inside swimming pool. The infinity pool looks over Dubai’s marina and you can see their version of the London Eye. They have the rule to say no return within 45mins they take the sunbeds which I know upset quite a few Brits but worked for us. There are also kids’ clubs, a health spa, a watersports business, and a shop. The concierge staff were attentive and could get you taxis or private cars to take you to your next destination. Dukes Bar had a lovely atmosphere anytime we went for drinks and you could purchase fresh Sushi.

As a person who has chronic bladder pain, I often find getting in and out of the bathtub a struggle. Staying at this hotel was another level. In our hotel room, the bathtub had a shower screen but it had a gap between them both. This meant that if you used the shower, the water would pour out onto the floor and it would soak the floor and bath mats. As there was no rail to hold onto it made it a struggle to get in and out of the bathtub.

The only downside to the hotel was the breakfast but by day four it improved. The main breakfast is hosted in Great British Restaurant, which can be very crowded with guests. They have a live DJ and they are there to play loud music whilst you eat. As my partner isn’t a fan of this setup, we discover that you could eat in the Kypher Restaurant. This was on the 15th floor and it was much quieter with the selection you expected from the main restaurant. The view outside on the terrace was the added bonus.

I don’t know if I would stay at this hotel again as there are other hotels and locations I would like to explore. The pool and being opposite the Nakheel Mall was something that would attract me to the hotel again. I would request a better accessible bathroom so I don’t feel like I could have an accident coming out of the shower each time.
